Is Russell Brand being shipped back to the UK after being formally charged with Rape?

Russell Brand has been criminally charged with rape, oral rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault involving four separate women, British police announced Friday.

[yourNEWS.com] London’s Metropolitan Police charged Brand, 50, with five serious criminal offenses following an 18-month investigation. According to police and multiple reports, the charges include one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault. The offenses are alleged to have taken place between 1999 and 2005 and involve four different women, according to Deadline.

Police said Brand is accused of raping a woman in Bournemouth in 1999, indecently assaulting another in Westminster in 2001, orally raping and sexually assaulting a third woman in 2004, and sexually assaulting a fourth woman in Westminster between 2004 and 2005. Authorities have confirmed that Brand has been “issued a charge and requisition” and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2.

“The women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers,” said Deputy Sheriff Andy Furphy in a statement to the press, according to Deadline. He added, “The Met’s investigation remains open and detectives ask anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone who has any information, to come forward and speak with police. A dedicated team of investigators is available via email at CIT@met.police.uk.”

British officials will now be required to seek Brand’s return from the United States, where he has been residing. To proceed with prosecution, the Home Office would need to file a formal extradition request to the U.S. government on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service.
